sno.mobi is the world's first ski & snowboard site designed from the beginning to be viewed on a mobile phone. We don't take our computer away skiing and hardly ever get to the internet cafe, but we carry our phones with us everywhere. Sure, you can get a snow forecast on your cell, but that's just a single & very basic element of the rich and diverse info the internet holds & it's not good enough - sno.mobi give you everything, everywhere, all the time

Being honest, our PC site is a bit like other high quality ski sites (maybe a bit prettier ;-) ... our mobile site is unique... we give you the usual 5 day weather forecast, snow depth & piste info on mobile... but we have also put the whole resort in your pocket!

- small data size avoids big data bills

We've designed the mobile pages with very small data size (mostly text info rather than images), so your network can't fleece you with mobile data charges. You can reduce this even further by not clicking pages where you know there will be full width pictures (like our web-cam pages)  -  but don't worry too much as we even keep those small too. How? When you view a large PC page on your phone, it usually downloads the whole thing, then squashes it to fit your screen, so you're loading huge images with big data-size. We use 'device-detection' (we can tell what phone you're using) to resizes pictures especially for your phone, so you only download the small image that fits your screen - snoProblem!

Each business displays a map on your phone, so you can find it  -  & we can go one better than that. If you sign up (it's free) you can save the resort address of your chalet/apartment/hotel & then we can give you directions to and from all businesses that we list, whether you're trying to find your ski school or your way home from a boozy evening - just find the business listing and click "Get me there" or "Get me home" for free turn by turn directions. No need for a fancy GPS phone, this works on ALL phones. Also, it's free

- free email on all phones

Sign up (it's free) and we'll give you a free email address yourName@sno.mobi - you can use it to send and receive from any mobile phone or PC. While we have to admit it's not as slick as an iPhone or Blackberry, it's not two hundred bucks with a 2 year contract either either! In case we forgot to mention, it's free

- supporting local business

Just like us, many skiers & snowboarders would prefer to support local business in-resort... the whole point of sno.mobi is to make that easier, while helping you get the most from your holiday. If we really are entering a world recession, small business will need to work together, to survive among the big companies with cash reserves. Our cooperative approach to advertising and resort-information is intended to do just that - sno.mobi can be cheaper than the rest because local business is essentially grouping together, to help promote each other (huh? read on...)

- cheapest in the world to advertise

Uniquely our business model is not based on maximising revenue from each advertiser, we minimise it... in order to maximise the number who can afford to advertise. High-quality resort-info sites charge a few hundred euros or dollars per year to list your business (even without a mobile site) - they have to do this because they spend a lot of money on their own advertising, to rank on Google etc and so convince a business to be on them... a negative cycle? Our Listings cost a tenth of that, because we cooperate with our business partners and, at no extra cost to them, they effectively advertise for us, both online and in-resort. They add a link to us from their own website & put our sticker in their window (which we post for free) - that's it, just old fashioned cooperation, but it allows us to charge a tenth of the average going rate.

We're still working out how best to do it for mobile so bear with us...
(snoM8s: if you're not from the UK we should explain that "mates" are what we call friends/pals/buddies, so don't get it confused with "mating", that's a very different kind of website! You probably realised a snoD8 is like normal dating... only somewhere snowy)
